Chief Sustainability Officer, Cotton Inc.
Dr. Jesse Daystar is the Chief Sustainability Officer and Vice President of Sustainability at Cotton Incorporated and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment. He has published extensively on the economic feasibility and environmental sustainability of biobased products and biofuels in leading peer reviewed journals. Beyond peer-reviewed publications,he authored a book chapter on environmental analysis of bioproducts and biofuels and published four reports to the US Congress on the economic impacts of bioproducts. Dr. Daystar is actively engaged industry wide sustainability efforts as demonstrated by his leadership in the metric committee of Field to Market Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture and in Technical Advisory Committee of The Sustainability Consortium. Recently, Daystar has focused his efforts on how biobased products can solve the ever-increasing plastic problems that are dominating the media news streams. Dr. Daystar earned his two Bachelor of Science Degrees in Chemical Engineering and Pulp & Paper Engineering, a Master’s of Science Degree and a Ph.D. in Forest Biomaterials at North Carolina State University.
